I've a little one who is learning more vocab every day and is quite interested in 'down there' at the moment. Her brother has a 'willy' but not quite sure what name to give her bits. Any suggestions?
Thanks....

Ive been wondering the same thing! DD is only 16months so not saying anything yet but even i dont know what to call it. Vagina sounds so clinical for a baby!
My cousins 3 year old calls hers her Hu hu!

bops. !!!????!!! Don't know how it came about really, probably as a derivative of bottom somewhere along the line. Easy to remember for child cos starts the same.

This made me laugh! When I was little I called it a Dinky. Now all my little cousins call it that too! My friend called hers her La-La...She still does actually

Hiya, had the same dilema with dd!
After much stressing I discovered that the creche just called her front her bum and the back her bottom.
Easy and people also don't really cop what she's talking about if she says something about it in public!
Answers:
Wee-wee bum here.

Yeah, I can just imagine teaching her the word vagina and having her shout it back over and over again in the supermarket or in front of Grandad!
Answers:
my dd says front bum...and back bum! think thats what her creche call them!
but ive heard allsorts from noo-noo (before teletubbies time!) to daisy, fairy, lady garden, ganny.... etc etc

My son uses the word penis and knows the word vagina (but he says ginee at the moment). It doesn't come up in conversation much though and never in the supermarket.

DS calls his willy his pee pee
And DD, when she talks, will call her lady parts her ninny

My DD calls it her fairy or her front bottom.

My nieces all call theirs their front bum
Vagina just seems to clinical as does penis
Answers:
My DD calls it her wee bum or her front bum. Better than what she used to call it - her paw (long story haha)
Answers:
Think that is a really inappropriate term for a small girl to use about her private parts. DD is 21 months so haven't given it a whole lot of thought yet but would lean towards the proper terminology. Can't bear ninny or fairy or whatever.

When I was a kid my mam always called it 'mary' so now dd calls it her 'mary' too
Ds has a 'willy'

Front bum and bum. It doesn't come up all that much though. I don't know where it came from but probably she said she had a pain in her bum and I said the "front" or the back. And é viola, front bum was born.
Answers:
Thats were our originated from she said her bum was sore and would i put sudo cream on it, i asked her was it her wee bum or poo bum.

Thanks all, lots of good ideas there - will discuss with hubby and see what we agree on...

When we were younger we called it our privates and I reckon that's what DD will call it too.
I had a friend with twin girls who were told it was a vagina from the time they started to show interest but they couldn't say vagina so they called it their "gina" and I have to say I thought it was awful to hear that from little girls.
Answers:
Probably will just say 'bum' when the time comes. We don't use the correct words for bodily functions like wee and poo, so we won't for genitalia either!
Some people get all hot and bothered about their children using the correct terminology (but do they have their children saying urine and faeces, nasal mucus?) but it's not something to really worry about imo.
Answers:
I call it her bottom/bum..............it refers to everything in her nappy.
When she is older will tell her the clinical names, older as in before she starts primary school. She will be told what they are and can refer as needed.
Answers:
Same in our house.

Jayney - I don't think we thought about all this language it at all in our house. Interesting discussion.
Front botty just happened. As did botty burps (well, not actually happen
- but the use of the word did.) My DH did actively coach her to say "Alan Wickers" for knickers. Now she refers to her Alan's and nobody knows what she is on about apart from me and DH! "Ta-Ta" for boobs, which was her baby word when she wanted to nurse. She is still using that one, which gets a bit confusing as most people use it to mean thanks.
I quite like Lady Garden, but I think you are right McFrac, that it is more of an adult term.
What does your little girl call her privates?
