Hi DD is potty trained durning the day now (hope I don't jinx myself ) but I am just wondering when you are going to the shops or in the car what do you do - do you just leave the pants on and hope for the best asking every 5 mins do you need to go to the loo? sorry if this seems a bit of a stupid question but I am a first time potty trainer

When potty training DD I used pull-ups for any situations where we mightn't be able to make a mad dash to the loo. My feeling was that I didn't want her to have an accident that would set her back. But I made it very clear to her that pull-ups were only for certain times / places. She's 3 now and trained by day for 6 months. She's at the point where she'd happily wear a nappy for a car journey rather than have the distress of wetting herself. The pull-ups are sucha novelty for them, they love them.

I would always bring my DS to the toilet before leaving the house - just sit him on it for a few minutes never making a big deal of it. Then I would think of where were are going and locate all the possible places I could use toilets or stop with the potty in the car.
If at a shopping centre/supermarket always find out where the toilets and I would explain to my DS that there are toilets here and if he needs to go to tell me please. Thankfully I have never been caught out queing for the checkout. He thankfully very rarely has to go when we are out. When travelling long distances in the car he is great, usually a 3 hour trip only requires one potty stop.
Bring plenty of changes of clothes and something to mop up a floor in case of an accident - but so far we have only ever had one!!! DS now knows where all the toilets are when we go out so its fine. In fact the odd occassion when say out walking in the woods we have to let him pee outside - he thinks its greats and sometimes asks to do a pee-pee on the road!!!!!! Once you do it a few times - you will be out and about with out worrying about it.
