School start date for back to school 2009

Just curious to hear the start dates for back to school for autumn 2009
our school is back the 27th of August... its the first time I've ever heard of back to school in August.
Is it the same everywhere this year?

Ours have been the first mon or tues of sept usually - having grown up outside of Ireland, August starts is unheard of! Its depressing! I know its only a few days but I was hoping they would get that last week and start the Monday - we only back from America the Tues and they starting the Thurs!

Afaik DS is back the same day but sometimes the incoming infants start earlier.

We always go back in August to take a week midterm instead of 2/3 days Not sure of the exact date yet but DS1 starts secondary school on the 31st August

I find out the week before. It's usually around the 1st of September and it's always a full day too which is great.

For the last few yrs schools can re-open on any day of the week which the 1st day of September falls in.
This year it is not so bad it is only one day, other years it can be quite a few.
Ours is Aug 31st~may as well start as we mean to continue!
