Hi everyone,
I am struggling with Isla in the day............................
She is perfect at night - sleeps (on her own!!) in her crib from 7pm till 7am ish straight through - A* - yippee............................but then comes the daytime!
1. She wont settle unless its on me
2. If she misses a sleep because i have to be out and cant settle her on me, then she will not self soothe and therefore at some point she gets overtired and screams until i can soothe her on my chest.
3. If i do get her to sleep on me, and try to put her down for a nap - then immediately the eyes are open, and bang - wide awake!!
why can she self soothe at night and sleep on her own, but in the day is so reliant on me - she is feeding well etc............
Ideas please - my house is a serious mess as i cant do anything without her attached to me or i get a screamer who is out of routine..................help!!!

Hi Lisa
On occasions Izzy refuses to settle...we turn the radio on quite loud just on static and she is calm and eyes start to close straight away! It is actually quite bizarre becasue she will be crying her eyes out, wavings her arms and eyes wide open, then static comes on she stops moving straight away, her eyes get droppy and she just relaxes, yawns and off to sleep! We still find it mad!
It sounds mean but I think it works because they are so wound up about being tired that their little brains can't shut off. SO the white noise/static kind of numbs their brain, and they settle!
Give it a go, put her in bed and then turn the radio on and then turn the volume up to what you would consider too loud to listen to normal music at...she should settle. Leave it on for 5 - 10 mins until she is properly asleep and then creep back in and slpwly turn it down then off.
MAybe that will work for you too? I hope so!Answers:
Thankyou so much for your reply - am goin to try it tomorrow!!
Where does Izzy 'go' for her day sleeps??

She has all her sleep in the nursery in her cot. She has been there for ages now, cant remember when but she sleeps much better than when she was in the basket by my bed.
Most of the time she will settle just with me stroking her cheek for a minute if she cries, I would say every other day she has 1 nap where she wont settle even after stroking and I use the radio, which isn't very often but its better to use that then her not sleep!
She also has a nunu (comforter!) , I got hers from Boots and she loves sucking that before she sleeps!
When I put her down for day time naps I make the room as dark as possible, I have a black out blind.
Good luck for tomorrow!Answers:
Just gotta put in on this one!
Put her in her cot for her naps as well
Thats what I do with Toby and it works for us
It's like he knows that cot time means sleep time

I agree Xtine, someone said that a health worker or someone told them NOT to do that, so the baby knew there was a difference between night and day sleep
I think that is stupid, a baby just needs to know sleep....it will wake naturally during the day once it is in a routine so saying they need a different place is stupid!
Mind you this health worked also said that you shouldn't put a baby bed in the living room as that means it is no longer a living room...not entirely sure where the baby is sposed to go in her house!Answers:
Thomas will not go in his cot for day naps. He like Isla is great at night - in his cot at 7:30 wide awake and straight to sleep - he has been waking a bit during the night recently but that is due to the fact that he has figured out how to turn himself round and ends up with his head bent up against the bumper, lol - im sure its just a phase. Up at 7am.
He was like Isla and would only settle on me for naps but I got to the point where I just couldnt let it carry on. He has always liked his buggy and tends to go to sleep in there so I started putting him in there for naps. It took a good while of putting him in and walking him up and down the kitchen but eventually he would settle and usually sleep for about 2 hours. The rocking time slowly got shorter and shorter and now I simply put him in with his dummy in and he will go to sleep straight away.
My buggy lays flat so is great for this - I know some dont so may not be an option. I lay it flat and put in his fluffy blanket that he sleeps with at night, I them put the hood of the buggy up and put a sheet over th front so he can't see out. It works great and he loves it in there. He has two naps a day: 9-11 and 2-4 and it has helped his routine no end.
Like I said he simply will not go in his cot for day naps and I tried everything to get him to. But this alternative works great for us as it means if we are out and about or visiting he always has the same sleeps coz we have his buggy with us whereas we can't take his cot lol.
Hope this helps? and good luck

I've been having probs with this too and am starting to get to the end of my patience with it. Like the other babies, Joseph is good at night, only waking up once between 7pm and 6/7am, but I can't get him to go down in his cot during the day.
There are so many different schools of thought about the best way to make them sleep eg. making room dark or making it light, or putting them in their cot or keeping them elsewhere. I just feel sooo confused as to what the best thing is.
Also, want to make a routine for him with sleep in the day, but what do I do when I want to go out??? I'll go stir crazy staying in the house all the time waiting for Joe to get into routine!!
Yet when I go out he falls asleep in the car, and will then sleep in his buggy, but I'm anxious about getting him into wrong sleep associations. Eeeek!! Why is it all so tricky?? I feel like my panicking doesn't help, but I go back to work in a month and I'm frightened he'll scream the place down!!!Answers:
thanks so much for another idea - we started about half hour ago with the dark room, on her own, and i lied next to her doing the 'shoosh' noise that she normally loves - well we had a full on screaming fit with sweating and real tears.................so yep she is currently on my chest snoring away happy as larry..............god what am i to do with her............think i will take it slower and get some positive associations going on first - has anyone used a slumberbear???? do they work - just thinking it might be my heart beat??
the house will hac to stay a sh$$ hole a while longer yet!!!

When you put your LO's up for a nap in theiir cot in daytimes do you pull the curtains or just put them down as is. I have been leaving curtains open as she falls asleep downstairs without needing to darken the room
